Hello From Michelle

Hello to all clarinetists in the Clarinet Mentors Community. Happy Thanksgiving lin advance to all of my American clarinet friends! For the rest of the world, I am thankful that you are here in my clarinet community. Please enjoy the great training in today's Clarinet Mentors newsletter. I will take part in another great American tradition - Black Friday. Watch for a very special offer to hit your inbox in the next week!

I hope you enjoy the video that I created for you on some of the clarinet maintenance tools in the Backun Wood Care Kit. There are some helpful tools for non-wood clarinets as well. You can find some of these components separately, or you can order the whole kit with the special deal listed below. I also show you how to use them, or the tools you have at home.

I've created a free training video for you on rhythm. This one was tricky for me to make, because frankly, most people don't know how many of their playing problems arise from a lack of good rhythm training, so they don't even know that they NEED this. I hope it helps you. Read more details below.

If you have any enrolled in any of my more detailed Clarinet Mentors and Clarinet Mastery trainings, you likely have login information for your courses. Now, you can access these with a mobile app. See below for how to do this.

I hope that you are enjoying your clarinet these days. I invite you to become a more active part of the Clarinet Mentors Community by trying out one of our live training sessions (www.PlayClarinetNow.com)

Thanks for being in my community!

Michelle

FREE TRAINING

Fix what you might not even know needs fixing - Rhythm & Pulse Training

Teaching rhythm has truly become one of my biggest priorities this year. I believe that it is one of the most overlooked skills in most teaching philosophies, and NOT having good rhythm training can lead to frustrations such as:

  • getting lost when you play music with others
  • not being able to learn new music (unless you can hear it first)
  • not being able to keep up with other musicians, even if you think you understand how it is supposed to go

I really enjoy creating short trainings for you that have "quick fixes" to make your clarinet playing better. They feel good for you, and they make me look like a good teacher because I can help you improve in only 10 - 20 minutes. (The Clarinet Mentors Youtube channel has lots of these to offer.) Here is my challenge with trying to create a "quick fix" to help you improve your rhythm. I don't think we can make a meaningful change in a 20-minute video. However, the good news, improving rhythm is one of the easiest things to do when you have a clear roadmap on how to do it, and invest even a short amount of time daily on this. In three weeks, things can feel much easier, and in three months, you can move from being very "rhythm-challenged" to very "rhythm-skilled". With that in mind, over the past 2 years, I have been creating a full, detailed rhythm course that I think gives you all of the tools that you need to meaningfully improve your ability to learn new music, play along with others, and become a Rhythm Master. I'll be unveiling it very soon (maybe even as part of my Black Friday special).

Meanwhile, I make it a point to always share some of my best teaching tools freely. I so appreciate those of you who purchase my more detailed courses and keep the Clarinet Mentors Community running. However, if you are not in a position to be able to invest deeper, I still want you to get great value out of being here, and wanting to do the best that you can with your clarinet. With that in mind, I have prepared a training video that gives you a sense of some things that you can do, starting today, to make rhythm easier for you, and more importantly, gives you a link to some free samples of some of the most valuable training from my new Easy Rhythm Method course.

If you are willing to spend 5-10 minutes a day in the next week using these trainings, you will notice an improvement within about 2 weeks in your music and rhythm. Click the photo above, or go to this link: https://www.clarinetmastery.com/RhythmTraining

Clarinet Mentors App

Access Your Clarinet Mentors Trainings From Your Mobile Device

If you have ever purchased a Clarinet Mentors course, or even signed up for some of the free courses through my Clarinet Mastery site (such as the Clarinet Mentors Gear Guide), you can now access them through a very easy-to-use app on your mobile device. All you need to do is go to https://pages.kajabi.com/mobile-app-download and download the free Kajabi app for your Apple or Android device. Kajabi is the platform that I use to host all of my Clarinet Mentors more detailed trainings. Once you download the app, it will ask you to enter the email that you use for any of your Clarinet Mentors/Clarinet Mastery trainings, and you'll be able to read or watch all of my content right from your phone. The app also automatically saves your progress, even when you switch between sessions and devices. I have it on my phone, and I love how easy it is to use.

Backun Clarinet Care Kit

Many of you really appreciated the video on clarinet care that I sent out a few newsletters ago. (If you missed it, you can watch it here.) I wanted to share with you information about a new clarinet care kit that has many of the tools that help us to take better care of our clarinet, in an easy way. I discuss each item with you, and how you can use it with your own clarinet. The handy thing about this video is that you'll learn things that you can use even if you don't have this care kit. You could find components of it separately if you didn't want the whole package. In fact, a couple of the items relate specifically to wooden clarinets, or with wooden barrels or bells. However, other items are really handy for all clarinetists. I hope you enjoy this educational video which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/pP-wLHI-7Es

Some of the items in here are especially handy, such as the fix-it tool, which gives you a portable screwdriver and spring hook in one portable tool. The anti-tarnish strip helps keep your keys looking good just by sitting in your case. Do you know if your cork grease is wrecking your corks? Find out. If you have any wooden components to your clarinet, I show you in the video exactly how to oil them, and explain the humidity pack that really helps to keep your clarinet happy just by sitting next to it in the case.

My friends at Backun Musical Services have created a generous offer for the Clarinet Mentors Community. You can order this kit, or other accessories, at a 10% discount using the code MENTORS10. This will include free shipping for you. Perhaps someone in your life needs a copy of this offer to help fill your holiday stocking! You can find information here: https://backunmusical.com/collections/other/products/backun-wood-care-kit.

PS - I just realized that I forgot to pull out the mouthpiece patches in the bottom of the bag. They help protect your mouthpiece and your teeth, and I recommend that everyone use one on their clarinet mouthpiece.
